Cruz Skate Shop Poker Run

On Saturday March 5, 2011 Cruz Skate Shop will be hosting a unique skateboard contest in the streets of San Francisco. You are all invited. Have you ever heard of a Poker Run? It’s huge in motorcycle culture. I was exposed to them while working at Thee Parkside and have always thought it would be such a rad thing to do on skateboards. So with the Cruz Skate Shop 3 year anniversary coming up, we decided to go for it. This is how it works: At 11am everyone meets up at the Precita Park (Folsom & Precita) to sign up for the run. We go over the rules and explain how it all works. At , NOON we all take off headed toward our first stop. At each stop along the way each player gets a single card (Ace of hearts, 10 of clubs, etc). All total there will be 5 different stops, each time getting one card each. Now, because the run is sponsored by LOWCARD, we decided that the player with the WORST poker hand at the FIFTH AND FINAL stop (Thee Parkside around 4pm) wins.

The 5 stops along the way will be announced the day of. This forces people to get out of bed and get to the meeting spot instead of just meeting up around stop 3 or 4. If you don’t get to the meeting spot before 11am, you don’t know where were going. This keeps everyone together and ends up being way more fun. Any skateboarder, regardless of skill level, can enter this contest. It’s more about cruising around the city with your friends following the mob of madness. THE STOPS ALONG THE RUN: The Meeting Spot – (11am) sign ups! @ Precita Park (Folsom & Precita) Stop #1 – (Noon-ish) Somewhere in the Mission. Stop #2 – (1-ish) Somewhere in the Mission. Stop #3 – (2pm-ish) to make the Poker Run a little more interesting we decided to have a best trick contest right in the middle. But you will need to start with us to know where it will be, and you’ll need to end with us to know if you’ve won. Stop #4 – (3pm-ish) Somewhere in the Mission. Stop #5 – (4pm-ish) Thee Parkside / Awards given out. 5pm – After the awards there will be a FREE / ALL AGES show, and food and drink specials for all. The Poker Run leads you right to the after party! What can I roll on? Skateboards ONLY. If their are a few babes on roller skates, I’m not gonna tell them to go home. But no bikes, motorcycles, scooters, blades, longboards, cars, etc.. will be allowed to enter the run. This poker run is for skateboarders, so bring your skateboard. Can I ride my cruiser board? Its not a race. You want to roll in comfort? go for it. You wanna do tricks along the way, show us what you got. But as long as you make it to all 5 stops, youre in the running to win the contest. It’s gonna be hard to cheat… We have marked each card so we know what card was given to each player at what stop. Each card will be stapled to a sheet that you’re given at the time of sign up. This will hopefully stop players from trying to cheat. This is Poker. How good is your poker face?? Oh, and you can’t bluff. This hand is played face up. Watch out for one another. As we skate from stop to stop please be aware of traffic and of each other. We don’t want anyone to get hit and or hurt. And watch out for cops too! Though I’m sure all of us are well aware of them.
